> Q-1: I left the university last year. How can I submit my thesis/dissertation PDF?

A: We handle these cases individually. Please contact us by e-mail. You can send your PDF file by e-mail.

> Q-2: Are there any exceptions for submitting doctoral theses/dissertations?

A: According to revision of MEXT Ordinance No.9, 1953 and NAIST degree regulations, doctoral theses/dissertations are required to be made public via Internet, instead of presenting hardbound copies.

If there are above reasons, additional procedures are required. Please be sure to obtain approval from your supervisor.
・For doctoral students who entered by October 2017 :
  "Application to postpone digital archiving of doctoral thesis/dissertation via Internet"
・For doctoral students who entered from April 2018 :
  "Digital archiving (Institutional repository registration) of Doctoral Thesis/Dissertation"

> Q-3: What reasons are considered acceptable for postponing digital archiving via Internet?

A: Reasons for postponing open access include:

  1. theses/dissertations include information preventing digital archiving via Internet:
    • three-dimensional information expression
    • protection of personal and/or copyrighted information, etc.
  2. protection of author’s rights such as:
    • (scheduled) publishing
    • (scheduled) publishing in a journal that does not allow open access
    • (scheduled) patent application

If there are above reasons, additional procedures are required. Please be sure to obtain approval from your supervisor.
・For doctoral students who entered by October 2017 :

・For doctoral students who entered from April 2018 :
  "Digital archiving (Institutional repository registration) of Doctoral Thesis/Dissertation"

> Q-4: If my application for postponement of digital archiving of my doctoral thesis/dissertation via Internet is accepted, does this mean I should submit my thesis/dissertation PDF after the reasons have been resolved?

A: Regardless of your application for postponement of digital archiving of doctoral thesis/dissertation via Internet, please submit your thesis/dissertation PDF by the deadline.

> Q-5: When applying to postpone the digital archiving, a digest of theses/dissertations is required to be submitted, instead of the full text.
What is the digest and how is it different from abstract?

A: A digest is different from abstract in that it is a summary of the fulltext including the following and other parts: the introduction, materials and methods, experiments and analyses, results and discussion.
Please consult with your supervisor about the content and submit it.

> Q-6: If my application for postponement of digital archiving of my doctoral thesis/dissertation via Internet is accepted, does this mean my thesis will not be publically available until the reasons(s) has/have been resolved?

A: The application for postponement is for only the digital archiving of your doctoral thesis/dissertation via Internet.
The postponed thesis/dissertation should be available if someone comes to NAIST and would like to view it even within one year after your graduation.

> Q-7: I wrote my thesis/dissertation in English. Should I fill in the Japanese fields on thesubmission form ?

A: Even if your thesis/dissertation is written in English, please fill in the fields below using Japanese characters.

  • your name in Katakana
  • thesis/dissertation title in Japanese
  • thesis/dissertation title in Katakana (Japanese)

> Q-8: I wrote my thesis/dissertation in Japanese. Should I fill in the English field in the submission form ?

A: Even if your thesis/dissertation is written in Japanese, please fill in the field below using English characters.

> Q-9: I wrote my thesis/dissertation in Japanese, and its title includes some words written in English. Should I convert these words into katakana characters for the "thesis/dissertation title in Katakana (Japanese)" field?

A: No, please input them in English, as they are in the original Japanese title.

> Q-10: If the keyword consists only of alphanumeric characters, How do I enter keywords (Katakana)?

A: If the keyword consists only of alphanumeric characters, leave the keyword (katakana) blank.

> Q-11: I found a correction in my doctoral theses/dissertation submitted after locking the submission system. How can I unlock system?

A: You cannot release the system by yourself. Please contact to NAIST Digital Library(lib-is@ad.naist.jp) to request to unlock (the procedure will be dealt during weekdays).
