Contents Intro.

This lecture will give an historical background on the field of molecular machines from the birth of the concept in 1979 in Japan with the pioneering paper of Prof. Seiji Shinkai to the attribution of the Nobel prize to Profs Sauvage, Feringa and Stoddart in 2016. The concepts as well as the chalenges of the field will be explained and the more relevant exemples of molecular machines will be describe, including the motors, gears and nanovehicles developped in our laboratory.
