Contents Intro.

Since crystal potentials for positrons are repulsive, total reflection of fast positrons takes place at certain incident angles on a crystal surface. At the total reflection condition, positrons penetrate 0.5 nm at most. Therefore it is possible to obtain structural and electronic properties and atomic structures at the topmost crystal surfaces by the total reflection high-energy positron diffraction (TRHEPD). In the present lecture, I will talk about positron beam sources first, and then reflection properties of fast positrons at adsorbed surfaces. I will interpret in details the recent results of structural analyses of clean and adsorbed surfaces, surface Debye temperatures, surface phase transitions and surface plasmons.
